10 Most popular Asian phones for 2008

Submitted by Chetan on Sunday, 27 July 200816 Comments

Just found this somewhere on the web, the 10 most popular phones in Asia, according to a survey. I am listing out a couple plus and minus points for each phone from my point of view!
I was shocked to see just one Nokia N-series mobile phone as one of the popular one’s and here in India, i see many N-Series phones being used. So China, Japan loves Sony more?

Nokia 6500 Slide
Pros - Some camera related cool features - 3.15 MP, 2048×1536 pixels, Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, video(VGA 3gp@15fps), flash; secondary QCIF videocall camera. Additionally, 3G feature available. Memory can be extended upto 8 GB. Music player, Radio with RDS.
Cons - No Autofocus for camera in Video mode, the phone does not autolock when the slider is closed. Have to lock it manually when ever the slider is closed.

Sony Ericsson W910i Walkman
Pros - Seamless shake controls and motion sensors. Being a walkman phone, the sound quality rocks. New Menu features than the older Sony phones.
Cons - A separate walkman button for the shake control, and the worse 2.0 MP camera, low quality photos. Connector port is not at a good location.

Samsung Soul
Pros - Contextual navigation touch pad that simply rocks. Good quality camera. 5 MP, 2592?1944 pixels, autofocus, image stabiliser, video(QVGA), flash.
Cons - The worst part being the lack of Wi-Fi or GPS. Video dialing also not available. No xenon flash although high quality images from camera.

Sony Ericsson W890i Walkman
Pros - Slim and sleek good looking design that tech geeks always love. Good quality 3.2 MP camera for better image capturing. 2 GB memory card, also comes with Stereo bluetooth.
Cons - Autofocus and flash both are not available, so do not value the 3.2 MP quality for the camera. Memory card slot not well placed, behind the battery cover.

Nokia E51
Pros - It looks simple classic design with good cuts and solid features. Good dedicated buttons for business people to work through the Internet. Wi-Fi available. And comes with a stereo bluetooth. Good connectivity and simple email setup.
Cons - Microsoft quickoffice for mobile is just read-only and files can not be edited. Video calling not possible due to lack of front camera. Camera image quality poor.

Nokia N82
Pros - One of the best this year, 5 Megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and GPS enabled. High quality images. 2 GB memory card included which can be extended to 8 GB. Camera - 2592 x 1944 pixels, Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, video(VGA 30fps), xenon flash; secondary CIF videocall camera.
Cons - Not very much appreciated design. Very small keys to have your hand for long on it. Does not support 3G.

LG Viewty KU990
Pros - A very cool and sleek design, 5 MP camera, and high speed downloads. Image and video capturing works very well. Touch-screen interface. Option for uploading videos directly to youtube!

Nokia N95 (8GB)
Pros - Big 2.8 inch display and 8 GB internal memory. All the multimedia features like 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth are included. Perfect image quality due to its 5 MP camera. Front and back cameras.
Cons - Size not adjustable for small pockets, i.e. a bit bigger in size due to its double slide. Memory can’t be expanded and memory card not included, so phone can go slow with the high memory internally. Battery life not satisfactory.

Nokia 3120 classic

Its really not surprising about the N Series since they are pretty expensive and not everyone can afford them. Still there are a lot more Nokia’s than any other brand in the list which is not surprising since Nokia is very popular in Asia and Europe. It’s only the United States market they have not yet managed to crack.

I think N96 and Motorazr V3 should have made place in this list. There are so many mobiles coming in 2008 it become difficult which will come in top 10 list.
