2008 Crunchies Winners Announced
So like every year, Techcrunch conducts the Crunchies awards for the best tech companies. And 2008 Crunchies had some great start-ups and technology related companies that were competing for many positions.
And here is the list of the winners in various categories as discussed below -
- Best application or service – Google reader, the RSS feed manager and reader app for most of the techies, won the award for best application. Runner-up is MySpace Music, though Meebo was one of the nominations which i expected to win.
- Best technology innovation or achievement – Its Windows Live Mesh winning the award, and Facebook Connect bagging the runner-up award. I did not expect both, and had voted for Google chrome to win, and Google Friend Connect to be 2nd.
- Best design – Cooliris wins the best design award, and the runner-up award was won by Animoto. No comments.
- Best bootstrapped startup – GitHub wins this award, and 12seconds.tv comes to the 2nd position. I had voted for Backtype.
- Most likely to make the world a better place – GoodGuide, which i voted won the award making most people think and believe that it might help in betterment of the world. Kiva stood as the runner-up.
- Best enterprise – Amazon Web Services is the winner, and Google App Engine is the runner-up. Had expected the App engine to win this award.
- Best International – The very expected eBuddy won the award and Wuala stood the runner-up.
- Best cleantech – Better Place claims the runner-up award and Project Frog whom i voted for, wins the Best Cleantech.
- Best new gadget/device – No one can answer this wrong. iPhone 3G wins and Android G1 is the runner-up. The Flip MinoHD, Asus EEE 1000 Series are cool gadgets but don’t still deserve winning against iPhone.
- Best Time Sink Site or Application – Tap Tap Range wins, and Texas Hold Em ends with runner-up award.
- Best mobile startup – Evernote is the winner and ChaCha is the runner-up win.
- Best mobile app – imeem mobile is the winner and Google Mobile Application wins the runner-up position for the best mobile application.
- Best startup founder – Twitter founders Evan Williams, Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone win it. That was totally expected by me, as the craze of Twitter in 2008 was on the peaks, and all was due to the founders. Paul Buchheit, Jim Norris, Sanjeev Singh, Bret Taylor of Friendfeed comes 2nd.
- Best startup CEO – The youngest billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook wins the best Startup CEO award. Runner-up went to Jason Kilar, CEO of Hulu.
- Best new startup of 2008 – Friendfeed won this award, and Dropbox stood as the runner-up.

Thanks for mention. I’ve missed that winners already announced. Last year winners list was very interesting.
wow, cool awards..
I agree with twitter and iphone.
Nice awards there. It’s tough to keep up with all the new & exciting companies out there…..I’ll be honest….I haven’t heard of lots of the companies that won, or were runner up!
@tv: Its not always needed for everyone to keep track of every website that is on the web. You would know about it if you are in some need of it already
