Yes, everything takes time. No way they are gonna beat Microsoft at OS. And Windows 7 has had great beta reviews. Chrome OS has at best got mixed reviews. I have tested Windows 7 RC 2 and it rocks.

It is obviously that you don't like Google for certain reasons. What I must say is that Google did a great job by now. You have to think of the success that Twitter had only because of it's simplicity. Twitter doesn't make fried potatoes nor write by itself what you have in mind. Twitter it's the best because it's simple. This is what Google intends to do, make everything light, easy, fast for every single person that might have not used a PC long before... Market is filled with plenty of applications, complicated stuff. We don't need complicated things to evolve. We need everything simple, light, and focused on what we ask. I use Chrome because i can write 2 letters from an address and it writes by itself. Before Chrome I had Firefox, but since I got used with this thing ( the address one ) Mozilla is bothering me.

You are wrong about the people. I have plenty of free applications on my PC which are slightly better than paid applications of the same kind. People who make free content focus on getting things for people not for money. Why don't you allow something that comes free in your garden ? Why don't you let yourself choose what is good for you instead ?

It's funny to see people writing articles on something they don't know :)
Best part is "No charge, really upto expectations?" :P
The most important part of FREE is that it will be OPEN not the fact it will be without any cost! And just another thing: Google doesn't sell product, they sell SERVICES.

> Here are a few things i state to hold the reasons why the Google
> Chrome OS won’t be a hit
Let's see them together:
1) Launch date too far.

Has it ever occurred to you that by 2010 the market might be filled with ARM powered netbooks, to which both ubuntu and moblin are moving forward and on which windows 7 WON'T RUN? No? Let's see if in a year's time you'll manage to get a small netbook with 25 hours battery life and windows 7 on top.

2) The fact that FREE products usually pull in more users, can sometimes go wrong too.

Do you have any reason to think this will be the case? CAN be doesn't mean it MUST be.

3) The Chrome OS is coming for netbooks and users who are using the web very frequently. But how many people of that kind would you find?

MMhhh, I don't know....EVERYONE?
Serously, who the hell in this world uses a pc and DOESN'T USE the web?

Email, facebook, blogs, social networks, maps, search engines, online office/graphic editors.

Dude, what year are you writing us from? You sound like Bill Gates that in 1995 didn't include an internet access in wind95 because "who really uses it"?

4)Browser can be good when lite, but not an Operating system.

Yeah, that's why everyone's running to slick up the boot time and the resource demand of every OS. Becasue it's NOT good.

Am sure Google won’t be able to bring in everything that a regular user would expect.

Do you have any inside source for that? Because so far I can see me, my coleages, my familiy and overall everyone I know using online maps, online office tools, online messaging system, online media.

The things we're missing are moving more and more in the semi-pro market (music production, video, advanced office). For a general purpose use you have almost EVERYTING you need online.

5)Why don’t Google think about single thing, rather than going every way trying to monopolize the web

It's called "expanding the portfolio" and it ensures that the company reamins healthy even if certain business don't go too well.
I don't know if you have ever been told this, but as a company if you get stuck you are dead.

Just think if the only activity of google was, say, YOUTUBE.

6) Why didn’t you still release the final version of Chrome browser for Mac and Linux?

What exactly has this to do with the possible flop of their OS???
If you wanna rant about chrome just rant, but don't try to sell it as a possible cause for an OS that you haven't even seen!

All this said, I can agree that this could be a flop, I'm not saying that for sure it would be great. But if you wanna criticize it you might have to find better arguments, these one fall off form everywhere.

@Med,
I agree and again would repeat the same as above. I am not against Google and am not a google hater. I love their search engine, and that doesn't mean every product launched by them would reach to that level.
People expect that, but i don't. And there are many like you who agree with this :)

Whatever you say, people will still go against you to support Google due to its fan base. But they don't realize that Google has been famous just for its search engine.

Apple products are not going to be working in Chrome OS, is what i read in techcrunch, and if that's the case, it would be one more reason added why Google chrome OS will fail big time.
So people who are blindly coming in to support the chrome OS, prove that you are right when you are talking something.

@Brian,

The OS is not yet launched, or i would have made a list of 10 more points. And if you read the article clearly, you would see me pointing very few things about the OS but am talking about Google and its other presently running products which are not much looked into by Google itself.
In that situation how much would it be able to manage the Chrome OS?

Anyways, do you have any good points to justify what you said? And points to support the OS?

@Markandey,
Good post shared there. And it clearly says -
It was mathematically proved decades ago that it is impossible -- not an engineering impossibility, not technologically impossible, but the 2+2=3 kind of impossible -- to create an operating system that is immune to viruses.
* Then how would Google claim that people using Chrome OS would not be worrying about Virus and Malware?

You 7 reasons, but there are no reasons at all... All of your views are trying to hard to just say "FAIL", but with no substance what-so-ever.

I m not agree to compare Google Chrome OS with Windows 7 or even XP. Chrome OS is meant for the people who uses netbook. And netbook are meant for Web browsing only. Chrome OS is to fulfill our daily Internet needs while we are on move. Because we don't use to watching movies or playing games when you have to travel a lot and your business runs on important mails or documents. We can't expect to run heavy duty applications or something like that. Chrome OS is answer to Intel Moblin.

All i have to say is Chrome OS is not an OS it is an alternative and better replacement of heavy duty OS. BTW some points raised in this article are really appreciable like Google, you don’t own the web! and Google’s multi-sided view decreases concentration.
