Alexa changes for major websites - Which one?
There have been changes in the alexa ranking system lately and i have seen a lot of changes in good websites’ alexa rankings.
Here are a few changes that i saw and noticed, being a webmaster, mostly checked the sites related to webmastering as the traffic there was mostly using alexa toolbars and their ranking went down.
Rankings boosted -
- Amitbhawani.com - Was 70,000+ and now 54,000
- Labnol.org - Was nearly 20,000 but now 14,626
- Gii.in - Was 53,xxx and now 45,323
- Balkhis.com - Was 180,000 nearly and now 162,714
Whose rankings hurt -
- seocompany.ca - Was 23,587 and now is 45,357
- mattcutts.com - Was 6,790 and now 20,94
- problogger.net - Was around 5000 and now 12,917
- shoemoney.com - Was around 5000 and now 19,818
- johnchow.com - Was nearly 4000 and now 17,088
- vikingblogger.com - Was 121,xxx and now 155,121
- TheUniversityKid - Was 56,000 nearly and now 206,995
- ZacJohnson.com - Was 22000 nearly and now 68,882
- SlyVisions.com - Was 96,000 and now 118,472
- Retireat21.com - Was around 46,000 and now 82,206
- JohnCow.com - Was 22,100 and now 104,014
- Digitalpoint.com - Was 332, now its 938
There are several other websites and blogs which i want to include into the list, you might want to check the 45n5 top 100 money making blogs list, the whole of which affected as all were dedicated for webmasters.
Why do you think these changes have come?
I highly have a thinking about this now being linked to search engine traffic, and use of just the toolbars has been eliminated from the system of rankings. I don’t think alexa is foolish enough to remove the whole toolbar concept, but they might just have made sources like search engine and social bookmarking traffic added into the new ranking algorithm.
Anyways i would post my predictions on this in one of my next posts.
What do you feel and see the changes for your website/blog?

Now all these are real ranks
Lets not forget couple of the blogs listed above didnt have any real traffic and just got alexa ranks because of the buzz and webmaster traffic which had alexa toolbars.

I am glad that my ranking has improved, and only time will tell how well it goes. I have to say alexa taking actions are about time … because people were loosing faith in it.

Yeah amit why not name them openly, it was john chow and shoemoney who were getting full buzz and not much in search engine traffic.

My rankings stayed the same, hovering around 200k. Wow, Johnchow dropped so much, maybe Alexa is taking the link qualities into consideration like Google?

I have already beaten shoemoney as per alexa now and i do think thats true because i have SE traffic and he has got subscribers who comes just to spam via comments in order to get some link juice

Check this link for the same

No it has nothing to do with the links, this time they are analyzing the websites in a bit right way from what it seems to be.

I think thats a good move by using more tracking tools.
Before that, i usually get 500+ uniques/day but alexa was bad. Not I see a good move of 100k

It seems like you could dedicate a lot of time and effort (just like with google PR) and then get shafted. More concentration on content and readership would be more beneficial.
