The Apple iPad first generation was sold with a count of 15 million units, in just a period of 9 months from April to December, 2010. With such a high record sale, the next generations is surely expected to be one of the next best. It has just launched at the Yerba Buena Center on 2nd March 2011.
The Apple iPad 2 has launched with a complete new design, and with a faster speed, having a new chip called the A5 chip. It comes with the dual-core CPU, with the speed of almost double the iPad first generation. And the graphics display would be up to 9 times faster comparatively. Camera is an addition, which the Apple fans were missing when kept beside the tablet devices like Samsung Galaxy tab etc. The iPad 2 has the front and rear facing cameras, which would be helping in video conferencing and also capturing pictures respectively.
With a faster processor and a thinner design, one would always think about the battery life being compromised but the Apple team has still kept the battery life of 10 hours on continuous usage and around a month of standby time.
The iPad 2 comes in three versions depending on the storage –
- iPad 2 16GB WiFi version – $499
- iPad 2 32GB WiFi version – $599
- iPad 2 64GB WiFi version – $699
- iPad 2 16GB WiFi +3G version – $629
- iPad 2 32GB WiFi +3G version – $729
- iPad 2 64GB WiFi +3G version – $829
The year ahead would be a great year for Apple and the iPad with around 65000 apps supporting the iPad and the new iPad being a great competition to the other tablet devices, having the fastest performance and the camera that was missing in the earlier version.
The iPad 2 is going to ship on March 11th, 2011. It will be shipped to 26 countries by 26th March, 2011.
The iPad 2 has a HDMI output with the cable to connect through the HDMI output. The output provided is upto 1080p. While the output is being used, the iPad 2 also gets charged with the same connection. The cord costs $39.
The iPad 2 is 33% thinner, with the thickness being 8.8mm when compared to the 13.4mm of the iPad. The device is even thinner than the iPhone 4, which is 9.3mm thick. The iPad 2 weighs 1.3 pounds when compared to the 1.5 pound iPad. It has the curvy design unlike the boxed version, and that makes it sleek and easier to handle.
The iPad 2 comes in 2 colors – White and Black, and as of now there are 2 providers selling it – AT&T, and Verizon. The iPad 2 even has the built in gyroscope just like the iPhone and iPod touch.
