I thought it was only Vodafone with the huge prices of Apple iPhone 3G but Airtel too was crazy to launch the mobile dated 22nd August with the same price tag.
8 GB (Black) for Rs 31000
16GB (White & Black) for Rs 36100
Vodafone prices of iPhone were nearly similar to this one and i see no difference! Once again a disappointment for many gadget lovers.
As the commentators said in the vodafone post, waiting and watching these service providers reducing the price would be the best option. The prices would decrease sooner or later and then we can have our grab.
Once again, Nokia N96 would be a better option to go with, if you are trying to decide between the iPhone 3G and N96.
It is not going to be lines of people like those in front of AT&T in U.S. as people there were buying the handsets for just $200 and $300 but here it is more than thrice the pricing. When both Airtel and Vodafone realize that they are lacking the actual number of customers, then they would just come down to some decent prices.

Yaar, i think in the main site itself, the price is around 15k..
How can it be 30k , i dono
The service providers will realise the low number of purchases and lower their prices. . . .so its just a matter of waiting for the cost to come down. .
vishnu, you sure with your information?
I have taken the note from the main airtel website and also followed their email from which i got these prices.
Hi all
So, finally comapny understood mindset and problem of common man of not want to spend such a big amount of Rs. 31000/36000 to buy an iphone and made it available through EMI with tying up with few banks. I saw this info on iphone section of airtel site (http://www.airtel.in/iphone3g)
