How many times have you come across all of these message comments on your blog or a popular blog asking you to buy certain product or to visit certain site that is damaging the image of your blog? This is a common and more frequent than ever issue that needs to be fixed if you are a webmaster, to avoid these messages and be able to avoid these:

1. Spam.
2. Looking unprofessional.
3. Give a bad image to your blog.
4. Making visitors leave your site

No SpamBut you may ask yourself, what can I do as a WordPress webmaster to remove this issue? Simple: Plugins and Filters.
A plugin is a component to add extra functions to your site. But how could that help you? There are a lot of useful plugins out there that allow you to modify the posting system into allowing the messages to be filter by anti-spam companies that have special keywords that determine spam in messages, to avoid all those Viagra pills advertisements, avoiding blog spamming, etc…
On this article I will show you some of the most useful functions on WordPress to end up all or most of the spam on your blog.

Here are some ways to avoid blog spam with plugins:
1. Put filters : This is probably the best anti-spam measure, the following plugin is Akismet. This is a plugin that makes all your comments pass through Akismet’s filter and if Akismet detects spam it deletes the message before It is submitted. You most note that Akismet is free for personal use and if you earn more than $500 a month off your blog you need to pay a small $5 monthly free. You can download this software and get your API key at: Akismet

2. CAPTCHA code: To avoid nonhuman spam such as software designed to spam comments, an invention called CAPTCHA code was made, this will make only humans be able to post on your blog, but the bad part is that some humans like to spam your blog and thus this won’t be the most effective way to combat SPAM. ReCAPTCHA is a good application for this.

3. EMAIL SPAM: You wonder how you get spam mails out of nowhere, and how if you never signed up for anything you still got spam? This can be due to email harvesting made by Email Crawling Software, What spammers do is crawl websites and look up for e-mail addresses, This isn’t an exception on blogs, Blog Admins and Blog Members usually leave their email posted so other member’s can contact them, but this is usually exploited by Spammers to add them to their Spam List. To avoid this there have been a long list of Anti-Spam Software out there, the most recommended anti blog email spam is a PHP Plugin called Email Immunizer. It is a clever program that when people post their messages they are transformed from text to numeric references.

4. Referrer Spam: Less common form as spam but still possible, what spammers do Is get a list of sites that they get get their visitors from, and use those sites to harvest emails and spam blogs. AutoBaReferer Is a plugin that checks your referring users and checks for “banned” words and then the visitor’s referrer gets filtered and if the referrer is part of a Spam Site, he/she will be filtered with a “410 Gone Error”.
