Boys not that high on the Internet

February 22nd, 2008 | View Comments

It was and is always thought and believed that Males rule the internet world. But it actually is the reverse when the teenagers are taken into the count.

I am actually referring about a study which i reached while stumbling for some interesting pages, and i found this interesting topic. This study was conducted by Pew Internet and American Life Project and they proved the believed myth to be a false one. According to them, boys of age 12-17 years are less active on the internet than girls of the same age group.

This was found when there were some case studies like a few below.
1. Bloggers - A case related to what i am. i.e. a blogger. In the age group of 12-17, about 35% girls were blogging but when the boys count was conducted, it resulted to just 20%. So just 20% boys in their teenage are blogging?

Similarly 32% of girls create web pages for themselves, outnumbering just the 22% of boys doing the same activity. :(

2nd study – Social networking.
Now one of the most active happenings in the web world is Social networking. In this sector too boys were beaten by girls.
About 70% of girls of age group 15-17 years were much interested in building up their profiles in social networking sites, but boys were just 57% for the same purpose.

Couldn’t believe this when i read it but the results were legitimate. Is there anything on the web where boys are bettering the girls?
But yeah, i agree that after the teenage ends, boys rise and become more active and outrank girls in almost every web activity. :)
