Reliance netconnect wireless Huawei EC 168c/1260 Mac drivers download

Reliance broadband service is one of the consistent broadband wireless services, which can be used on both mac and windows operating systems. I had earlier posted the reliance netconnect drivers for windows, and here is one for mac -

Usually when a reliance netconnect modem is inserted to a mac, it detects and automatically has the app installer which the modem comes with. Sometimes, it doesn’t happen so you have to go with the above guide. You will need to install the application, and add it to the apps folder in your mac. In the setting you have to put the following details -

Telephone Number will be #777
Account Name :- your 10digit MDN
Password : – Your 10digit MDN

And you have 3 options -
High Speed 1x: The terminal can connect to the High Speed 1x network.
Broadband+: The terminal can connect to the Broadband+ network.
HYBRID (Broadband+ and High Speed 1x): The terminal can connect to the Broadband+ and High Speed 1x network both.

Airtel launches Airtel App Central store – Mobile applications store

Bharti Airtel, has launched for the first time in India, the Airtel applications store named “Airtel App Central” store.

A one stop shop for applications. Airtel Live introduces India’s first mobile market place. Realizing the growing needs of our ever burgeoning customer base of over 118 million, the App- Central is a first of its kind online venture in India. Covering over 22 categories of applications, the App- Central is a bottomless ocean of applications, where there will be some application for everyone. All you have to do is fish them out with your mobile.

You simply download and purchase applications directly from your phone. Just browse through App-Central, choose your category and from a wide range of applications under the category, pick one that you want.

There are around 1250 apps in about 25 categories that range from gaming, reading, social networking to emailing, books, entertainment, utilities and themes. The user doesn’t need to give any credit card details. Money is either added to their postpaid bills, or charged from the available talk-time in prepaid users. Apps start from as low as Rs. 5 per app to a higher value for many others. These apps are being given away in a wide range of mobile phones, around 550 of them and this would surely be a hit as the way of using it and downloading the apps is easy and fast.

To experience the Airtel App Central, Airtel mobile customers can visit Airtel Live on their mobile phone and browse into App Central or SMS app to 54321 (toll free) to receive the URL.
There are both free and paid apps available, and if you accidentally deleted a paid app, you can re-download it from the store as Airtel saves your purchases.

Airtel unlimited chat & email service for Blackberry users

Aircel introduces call offers to kill Airtel, Vodafone, Idea

Tata Docomo has already taken the big step to break the backbone of the already popular networks like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea with its killer call offers like 1 second for 6 seconds in local calls, and now Aircel follows the same.

Although the plans are not similar to that of Tata Docomo, they are good enough of pull the subscribers towards them. The only thing they have to set right is the availability of the network all around, as many regions are yet to receive the network installation and availability of the SIM cards.

Here are the various call offers lately introduced as special packs –

RC 45 – Offer for 1 paisa per 2 seconds to any local number from the Aircel number. This offer is available for 30 days.
RC 4 – The same call plan of 1 paisa per 2 seconds, valid for 2 days time.
RC 11 – Offer for Aircel to Aircel unlimited calls to one particular number, for a single day.
RC 66 – Offer for Aircel to Aircel unlimited calls to one particular number, for 7 days.

Aircel has the same offer for STD but after the first 2 months, you need to recharge with RC 52 to continue with the STD call offers.
One more advantage of Aircel over the other networks is the GPRS service which is available at Rs. 14 for 3 days, and Rs. 94 for the whole month, and the browsing is unlimited.

The Telenor Group’s Indian mobile operation has launched the GSM mobile network service with the name of Uninor. It is a new entry from an old player in the mobile network world, and is launched in a limited places right now, and comes with plans with as low as 29 paise per minute call costs, which is not available with offers too, in other mobile network companies.

How to test mobile broadband speed

There are hundreds of tools available to test broadband speed of the internet broadband connection that you are using, but most of them work with just the computers and no other web browsers like mobile phone browser etc. To check the broadband speed that your mobile phone browser can pull up, here is a good testing tool -

This is a very simple tool which is made for your WAP browser of mobile phones, and tries to download a file of small size, to test the speed of broadband that you are using.

We attempt to convince your mobile device to download a measured amount of data, compare this to minimal data, and calculate your effective latency (time for one request) and effective download speed.

Just open the site from your mobile browser and you would see a screen -

Then you need to select the file size, 1kb, 50kb or 100kb depending on the speed you expect your internet to be. There are bigger file sizes too, but you may get that option when they notify that the size is too small for the speed of internet connection. Generally a 50kb selection is ideal, select that and it would proceed to the file download -

The speed might be higher usually when checked through the computer but the capacity of pulling the broadband weight in mobile is usually lesser.
The tool also displays the IP information, DNS agent, browser etc. information if prompted to do so.

Tata Docomo GPRS plans no longer Unlimited – Limited 20MB, 100 MB plans

The long talked Tata Docomo GPRS service which was unlimited for a very limited time, very unexpected for users who were happy with the pricing and plans launched by them nearly a month back.

There were 2 plans earlier, Rs. 15 for 3 days unlimited download and Rs. 95 for 1 month unlimited download and internet browsing. It was running fine and Docomo actually got the pace of selling their SIMs and userbase increased due to this catchy prices and plans, which finally got dropped and all mouths hung down!

Here are the revised plans -
Rs.15 GPRS Pack with free data usage of 20 MB:
This is a Rs.15 pre paid recharge which will give you FREE data usage of 20 MB for 3 days. To start using internet on your phone all you need to do is just select DOCOMO internet APN on your GPRS compatible handset and start browsing. Normal GPRS tariff of 1p/kb will be applicable post utilization of free usage..

Rs.95 GPRS Pack with free data usage of 100 MB:
This is a Rs 95 pre paid recharge which will give you FREE data usage of 100 MB for 30 days. To start using internet on your phone all you need to do is just select DOCOMO internet APN on your GPRS compatible handset and start browsing. Normal GPRS tariff of 1p/kb will be applicable post utilization of free usage.

There is no official notice from Docomo about it but they just changed the plan details in their website.
