Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Laptop – Perfect Holiday Gift #1

Dell, Acer and EEE have come up with the best budget and small sized laptops since some good time, and these tiny ones look sleek and a lot handy than the bigger ones. One of those who really fascinates me, is the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 laptop which is just 9″ wide screen but the design and the colors outside are attractive.

These are more easily customizable than the larger notebooks and also, the user interface is a lot better. The laptop comes with 16 GB hard disk, 1 GB RAM, and the very basic laptop comes pre-installed with Linux operating system, but if you choose, you can get Windows XP Professional too. The battery life of this laptop is 4 hours and the Mini weighs 2.28 Lbs.

If you are aware about the other mini laptops in the market, you won’t see much difference in the size and design too. The body is mainly plastic but still strong enough to handle some pressure and resist scratches too.
May that be any operating system, Dell Inspiron Mini 9 is filled with few apps for direct usage of the laptop. It has stereo speaker, microphone jacks, and the connectivity options are Bluetooth, Ethernet and also Wi-Fi for faster web browsing.

The keyboard is too small and compact that a regular computer keyboard user would find it bit difficulty in getting set to the small and compact keys.
Upgradation is very easy for these laptops, but one fault everyone points out is the absense of F11 and F12 functions keys.

The price ranges from $349 to $449 depending on the operating system, memory space etc.

I own the Acer Aspire and I am honestly not too impressed with it. I think with the design of the Aspire they could have gone with a bigger screen. There is about 1.0cm of plastic surrounding the screen, which could have been designed differently to allow for just a little bigger of a screen. The Acer Aspire is also very slow. It is slow to load up, slow to process data and surfing the Internet is very sluggish.

I am totally in the market for a laptop mini, so I very well may give this one a try. Thanks for the review.

Just did a fresh install of XP Pro on my Dell Mini 9. I got this for my wife and I am considering selling it already. Even with a fresh install of XP Pro, this laptop is extremely sluggish. Sometimes I think it is going backwards. This is ridiculous! Why would any company make such an inferior product? I suppose they thought the “cute factor” would sell it. I guess maybe they’re right, but I think they’re going to have some extremely unhappy customers such as myself on their hands.
