Download Windows 7 RC – Free 1 Year from Microsoft

Windows 7 is the latest Operating system version being developed by Microsoft, and its beta version was already out for trials and now Microsoft is giving the same for 1 year for free. The Windows 7 Release Candidate is available for free download and available for all the public rather than just the beta testers.

windows 7This Windows 7 RC is available till June 1st, 2010 and you would be getting notified about its expiry from March 1st, 2010 with periodic shutdowns so that you can bother to upgrade to the original license if you wish to.
This is free so that you can still pull out and report the bugs and Microsoft can try to rectify each of them before the final launch of the Windows 7 version.

Caution: Do not try to install the RC in your home/business computer before backing up your PC. Its risky to lose data so better backup everything before you install the Windows 7 in your computer.

Keep your PC updated: Be sure to turn on automatic updates in Windows Update in case microsoft publishes updates for the RC.
The release candidate is coming in 5 languages – English, German, Japanese, French, and Spanish.

According to Microsoft, here is what all you need to know to install the Windows 7 RC -

  • Troubleshoot problems. You’re pretty much flying solo, so you’ll need to handle your own tech support, and rely on other RC testers for their know-how.
  • Burn an ISO file to make an installation DVD
  • Install Windows
  • Backup and restore your PC
  • Set up a network
  • Create and use a system recovery disk

These are large files so you would have to wait for hours for the download to complete, and in accordance to the system specifications, you can download either the 32-bit or 64-bit version.
