Free DVD Ripper or Extractor for Mac OS X - MacTheRipper

Submitted by Chetan on Tuesday, 14 October 20084 Comments

MacTheRipper is a DVD ripper software for Mac OS X that is running and depending on libdvdread and libdvdcss libraries which are open-source platforms. This product is made to backup DVDs you have legally purchased for personal use. Any copyright infringing activity you choose to perpetrate using this application is illegal, wrong, and beyond the software’s control.

The following things are done by this DVD ripper -

  • Removal of CSS encryption.
  • Macrovision protection.
  • Default region-free setting by going to Region “0″ in the disc.
  • Removal of RCE protection region.

All these above enable you to make an unrestricted copy of the DVD that you have. It doesn’t rely on the DVD drive to get the CSS decryption keys, so that means that you do not need to play the DVD with DVD Player in order to rip it to your hard drive unprotected.

It is best advised to download the app through something other than Internet explorer. Safari or Firefox are the best softwares that help to download the app to your Mac.

To install MacTheRipper, simply mount the .dmg image by double-clicking on it, and copy the MacTheRipper application to your Applications folder (or wherever you want it), along with the MacTheRipper Manual, if you need it, or just move the folder to where you want it.

You can download the MacTheRipper app from here.
