Finding fodder for your blog posts which attract people to visit and read your content is a bit tough task for people who are not full time bloggers. For probloggers like Darren, it is good for them that they get new topics in mind to post or people send them mails everyday asking them questions related to blogging and they answer to the questions by posting them in the blog.
Those kind of things make good topics to post about, but when are not a good expert at things and are just lagging behind in blogging just as you are out of topics, Google alerts is your friend to find the things for you!
It is one of the best tool for searching through the latest and newest blog posts in the blogosphere related to your niche is Google alerts. Set google alerts for your email and select the appropriate keywords for which you need the alerts and you will be sent notifications whenever a new post is indexed related to your keywords.
Things you can do with Google alerts -
Enter the topic you wish to monitor - This can be done by entering a particular keyword, and any post with the same tag if indexed in google blogsearch will be sent your way making it easy for you to learn more and write more.
- Type Selection - You can select the type of alert you want. It may be just from a news website, from a blog post, posts from google groups, or video blog posts. If you have a video blog, and need to know and add new videos of your specific niche, you can select videos option which sends alerts of new videos being posted in various websites. There is also a “comprehensive option” where every stuff of your keywords alerts you.
- Period setting - You can set the alerts to arrive at your mail box once a day, or once a week, or as-it-happens. The best for a blogger would be the “as-it-happens” option as it becomes faster to search for new content.
Tips to get the best alerts -
When setting up google alerts, make sure to use the lesser number of keywords to get the best and accurate results.- Try to use Advanced search queries to better your search and alerts.
- You can create upto 1000 alerts, but is there a need for that big number? Be specific with a topic and keywords.
You should be signed into your gmail account to work with google alerts, so make sure you have one.
