Google Analytics and Chrome Browser – A bad match

Published by Chetan on September 3, 2008 – 12:39 pm3 Comments

In the last post, i said how Google did not include the toolbar into Chrome and this was not the only thing Google was wrong with, in this browser.

And the next thing, Google Analytics.

Google analytics is not working well with this browser as the Chrome browser is not set already for the browser to recognize the visitor’s browser.

Here is what the analytics guys tell you -

Because Google Chrome was not launched externally until today, we haven’t yet changed Google Analytics to recognize it when you segment by browser within reports. However – this will change in the coming weeks (until then, the browser will show as Firefox).

So, the stats are going to alter till the changes are done!

And the incognito mode for browsing, will make you a new visitor to your own website although you are a returning visitor to it. This is only when you are in the incognito mode of private browsing.

And Google analytics is not counting any Chrome browser visitor in a new way, it makes them count under Mozilla Compatible Agent / Windows!
Hah so we are still in the mozilla firefox visitor status!

See this picture below, shows that you have no signs of Chrome yet. But the image was taken through the Chrome browser so the visitor is counted right? (Click the image to enlarge)

More updates about Chrome coming up right after this post!
