How to get Google chrome features in Firefox browser?

Firefox browser still rocks with the best features, load speed and the most important of all, the Add-Ons. Though people have been liking Chrome since it is released, a few features that were not available in Firefox directly, can still be got through its add-ons and that’s the major reason why people love Firefox over IE, Chrome, Opera and any other browser.

Most of the features are similar between Chrome and Firefox, but a few things that are different in Chrome and that can be setup through add-ons in Firefox are -

In ChromeIncognito mode in Chrome – The private browsing option in Chrome, when you activate it, nothing that you browse during that mode is saved. No cookies, history or saved pages are seen from this mode’s browsed websites. There is the same private browsing in Safari browser too, and why would Firefox keep silent with this?
For firefox – This is the add-on named Stealther which can do the same job of Incognito in Firefox. Private browsing with options for you to disable any of the things like Cookies, Browsing history, Disk Cache, Saved form information and the recently closed tabs list too. It actually has more features than the Incognito mode of Chrome. And so, its one of those firefox add-ons that a webmaster must use.

In Chrome – The web applications that can be created in Google chrome is one of the best things that can happen in it. Due to the web 2.0 features. Any website can be converted into a web application.
For firefox – There is Prism firefox add-on which does the exactly similar thing which Chrome does. And as a matter of fact, Prism works only in Firefox for windows. Chrome too works only in Windows, isn’t it?

In Chrome – Download statusbar – This was a good invention in Chrome where the separate download window is not needed to be opened to check the progress of the downloads, but everything is shown in the status bar itself. The status shows time left, and progress of the file size being downloaded.
For firefox – The download statusbar firefox extension is a very similar function to the download bar of Chrome, and actually the look is far better than what you see in Chrome. This add-on is there since years and works better than the status bar of Chrome. So again firefox beats Chrome!

I don’t see many other things being different in Chrome from Firefox. I’m using macbook so not sure when Chrome is arriving for mac. When it comes, we can have a good comparison of features of Firefox and Chrome in Mac.

I have also found a firefox addon which can make your firefox design look like a google chrome. :)

As much as Chrome disappoints me on providing expandability to end users, there isn’t much anyone can do to speed up Firefox. Granted Firefox is fast, but after using Google Chrome full time for a month, one can totally see a huge difference in performance. Chrome is so much faster than Firefox. Once again though, Chrome does disappoint me for their lack of functionality. One would think that it would have been in the best interest of users to at least make Chrome auto discover RSS feeds. Strangely it does not and I am puzzled as to why it will take more than half the 2009 year to even get the browser to this level. Also too, Chrome will not be available for Apple or Linux until near the same time.

I like chrome but until it offers the features that firefox does i wont be using it.

@Garry Conn: I think Chrome is faster just due to its simplicity? Might be in the near future, when Chrome would have the add-ons, then the performance might come down to what Firefox is right now.

  • I like the incognito mode feature of Chrome a lot, but yet again the community provides an answer in the form of Stealther! I’m going to download and install it straight away! The very nature of Firefox allows it to adapt to the needs of its users in a spontaneous, organic manner, and this is going to leave the competitors behind. Now only if we can get a search engine that embraces these qualities. Imagine the Firefox or Wordpress of search engines!!!!!

I’m sticking with my firefox for the time being!

  • This was bound to happen. This is why Firefox is so robust, it can take on the functionality of virtually anything.
