You might remember when i mentioned about blogging seriousness which can cause medical conditions that affect your health. The main things i stresses upon were Insomnia, obesity, and addiction.
So, addiction is the one that can drive things into the other way anytime. And not only a simple blogger like me says this, but recently, psychologists have approved a new condition named IAD – Internet Addiction Disorder. This term was already known, but was something like a myth and was not approved by any medical professionals as a serious clinical condition, but now it is.
Now, being addicted to the computer and internet is not a bad habit, but actually a disorder and serious medical condition which affects the brain.
China is going to be the first nation that implies this condition similar to alcohol addiction and gambling as a clinical disease.
So blogging is nothing serious, but internet shoppers and gamers usually don’t leave the computer for hours, and practically when asked to leave, they change their moods and feel lonely when kept far from everything for considerable amount of time.
Read more about IAD in wikipedia.
According to the manual, IAD sufferers usually engage in five main activities – Online gaming, net pornography, excessive involvement in virtual social networking, too much Internet shopping and general cyber-surfing.
Tao Ran, a leading medical professional on addiction in China who also headed the drafting of the manual, said that the guide would be the first of its kind in the world if the Ministry of Health officially approves it.

Bah!!
Yet another reason for parents to keep children away from the GOLD !
It all depends on the definition of ‘disorder’.
Me too, feel I’m blended with web and calls myself People2.0 or Person2.0 (many others too).
Now, does that mean I’m having some disorder?
Seriously, NO
I can see people.
I distinguish between males and females.
I can, Play outdoor games, travel in a bus alone, go to a movie, ride a bicycle etc.
If this could be approved, why not a “Books Addiction Disorder” ?
I’m serious in asking that. Aren’t there many who live their life inside books? We call them just ‘bookworms’ and leave them.
Same way, oh world!, leave us. you can call us anythin’ >
cyber guy
web addict
the-one-who-drink-bandwidth..or anythng else
but, NOT PERSONS WITH DISORDER
We are OKAY
@Aravind: You are not at all wrong there Aravind, but we, who are not actually affected of all this can go against AID, but there are people whom i have seen and known. They can’t stay away from playing games for hours, or shopping on the internet or just browsing products with no other work. Its like alcohol addiction, with some health problems that can affect their brain(agree or not, but this is true). People start feeling restless when kept far from their regular long hours of playing games etc.
@Chetan:
Yes. Chetan. I understand. But, why I said the above comments was because, the people around us, will include us in that section.
Now, if we say to someone, that Internet is important in our life, we’ll simple be counted as one wtih IAD.
That’s the sad part of it.
I understand that ‘addiction’ causes health problems. That’s true.
But, everyone should understand the difference between an enthusiast and an addict
Then, it’s okay.
With people who shop online being called persons with IAD, you can expect meagre or little conversions for your affiliate marketing.
It was them who made you money…
(pun intended)
@Aravind: And actually its not me or you who approved this clinical condition, so its not in our hands
Still, i never saw from anyone that IAD is for tech savvy people or bloggers who are related to technology mostly
@Chetan: I understand the essence of it.
But, I only just wanted to humble say that, this would cause some of us being treated as an IAD, because of the illiteracy of people, about this.
No Worries !!
“excessive involvement in virtual social networking”
Yeah, I guess I could suffer from IAD…DOes that apply when you make money out of it? hehe
I don’t know why there was so much controversy in the first place about why this should be classified as an actual addicition. The internet is a huge place, with a HUGE amount of users and a lot of these users are spending times equal to or more than people would doing other things that would be called “being addicted”. I can see why as well as the internet is constantly updated it really is hard to run out of things to see and some people just get carried away in all this.
I think it’s good now that people who do get carried away will be able to get serious help to bring them back round again and realise there is a world outside and that it is in fact more important than the world online.
It is official….I AM AN ADDICT….now can I go on with my life please. Just don’t take my computer and connectivity away from me….PLEASE!!!!
Wow, who woulda thunk it. I thought the headline was a joke the first time I read it.
Is not normal when a mother forget about his children, when people does not work properly, when a child leave the usually playing in the nature or with his friends, and all that is because of the computer. We can try to change the computer and the internet to be useful and not harmful for our social lives. As for me, I use parental control software Ez Internet Timer http://www.internettimer.net. It provides me control, schedule and filter Internet activity on my children PC. It can also block Internet browsers, e-mails, Ftps or messengers and keep them blocked for as long as you schedule it.
Hello. Great job. I did not expect that kind of honest information. This is a great story. Thanks!
