Internet Explorer 8 beta features and download

Internet Explorer 8 BetaI’m not a IE fan, but would surely check out its new releases and see whether it has changed well to compete with mozilla firefox which i always love, and microsoft has set a perfect time for launch of the beta version, trying to compete with the firefox beta 3.
So Internet explorer 8 beta is launched.

The main changes are been given some specifications and are called Activities and WebSlices.

What is Activities?
Activities are contextual services to quickly access a service from any webpage. It is a service newly used in IE8 version which the user can install and use. There are certain activity services that can be done directly from a webpage, like searching for an exact location of a tourist spot or a hotel in a map, or posting an article from external webpage into our blog etc. These all can be done through the Activities shortcut. Highlight a text, and search or post through Activities. You can post to Digg, Facebook, find definition on dictionary.com too.

What is WebSlices?
This tool increases the browsing experience of the visitors by connecting the websites with the visitors very well by subscribing the visitor directly within a webpage. For this, the website owner has to activate WebSlices in his website, and similar to the RSS identification in firefox, webslices are identified by IE 8 and a subscribing button would appear on the toolbar of the browser. Click the button and you get subscribed for the new content in the website, and the site appears in the favorites section.

For making IE 8 more user friendly, there are a few other beautiful features which are a bit similar to firefox, includes -

  • Favorites Bar - The previous links bar of IE 7 has been replaced by favorites bar giving an easy access for links, feeds, WebSlices and even Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents.
  • Automatic Crash Recovery - Using firefox always had a feature and addon of recovering the previous work if the browser crashed, the same is with IE 8, where the tabs are recovered if the browser shuts down due to any error.
  • Improved Phishing Filter - Phishing sites always try to steal away logins of legitimate sites, and so there is a Safety filter introduced to assure full safety while browsing and logging in anywhere.

The features look impressive, surely worth a try to use and check whether it really is upto the mark and able to beat any other browsers on the web.

Where to Download?
The download links still does not seem to be completely active, but you can try to -

  4. Thats a nice piece about the new software. I just need to find the need to test this. Why I would change back from firefox?

  5. Chetan says:

I don’t think atleast a few might change to IE from firefox although the new release, as firefox just rocks.

But this latest version should be downloaded by webmasters to check the compatibility of their websites in that version of IE.

  6. david cheong says:

True. But also do wish that while installing the new beta version, i won’t need to overwrite the old one. Hate it when using switch to this hdd boot and that hdd boot for one different version to try-out.

Chetan, give me hi-5, me no ie-fan either. I notice there some great changes in IE since the 6 and 7 to the new 8. With the new phishing filter more improved as they claimed, hopefully it will be. But still, i stick to FF2 awaiting for the FF3 to release.

While trying out the beta IE8, some website really not yet ready for the IE8 yet. I think because of the css or design problem.
