Developers are very eager to create the cracks and tools for every new release, that is locked or limited to a particular generation of mobile, when it comes to Apple devices and products. The same is with iOS4, the new OS for iPhone and iPod touch. Only the Golden Manager candidate of its is released, but there is a way on how it can be jailbroken using Pwnagetool, redsn0w, the jailbreak bundles for Pwnagetool and the latest version of Apple iTunes i.e. iTunes 9.2. It is possible with only iPhone 3GS as of now.
Here is how you can Jailbreak the iPhone 3GS running on iOS4 –
You will need the following –
- iTunes 9.2
- Jailbreak custom bundles for iPhone 3GS 4.0 GM (download)
- Pwnagetool (download) for jailbreaking
- redsn0w 0.9.5beta4 (download)
You need to confirm if the iTunes is at its latest version, and then follow the below steps –
Extract the jailbreak bundles, and keep them at a single place in your desktop.
Now right click on the pwnagetool.app and hit “Show Package Contents” and browse to Contents > Resources > Firmware Bundles, and here you need to copy the jailbreak bundles which you extracted earlier.
Now right click on the Redsn0w.app and open “Show Package Contents” and browse to the following location – Contents > MacOS > and from here copy the Cydia.tar.gz to your desktop and extract its contents.
Now the cydia that you just extracted, should be copied to Pwnagetool.
Right click on Pwnagetool and open “Show Package Contents” and then browse to –
Contents > Resources > Custom Packages and here right click on ‘Cydiainstaller.bundle’ and hit “Show Package Contents” and hit the Files area, and here overwrite all the files from the ones you extracted from the redsn0w.app
Now create the custom firmware, using the Pwnagetool, which has the jailbreak bundles, as the normal procedure is done during any jailbreak.
Once the custom firmware is made, you will have to put the device in recovery mode, and replace the firmware with the custom one.
You surely have to use iTunes 9.2 for this. Also, this method has not been successful for many, so you can try it on your own risk, and only if you are using iPhone 3GS and not any other device.
