Motorola Motorokr E8 mobile phone review
The Phone with an iPod feel, This phone on first look did not give much of an impression but when taken in your hand and used it gives you a feel of technology, with the Rokr featuring a smooth “glasslike” surface with touch-pad controls that digitally “Metamorphs” depending on how the handset is used.As you shift from phone to music to imaging modes, the backlight on the control changes to illuminate only the relevant buttons for your current function.
With a scroll (half) wheel which is touch sensitive like that in an iPod makes it much easier and stress free for you to scroll through the long list of songs which you have stored in your playlist.
Features of Motorokr E8 -
- Mode shift technology – A perfect one helping in shifting from normal phone to music player or image flicker just with a small touch.
- “Fast scroll navigation wheel” – Just slide your thumb to navigate easily through all the songs, contacts and images in a gallery.
- Innovative keypad which resembles a touch screen but is with haptics technology provides tactile response and vibrates when a virtual key is pressed, which is really impressive and a much more impressive “Fast scroll navigation wheel” first of its kind in the mobiles.
- 2GB internal memory; optional external memory support up to 4GB capacity.
- Microsoft music ecosystem support.
- 3.5 mm stereo headset jack, stereo Bluetooth wireless technology.
- 2.0 megapixel camera with 8x zoom, multi-shot feature, video capture and playback.
- Has an Airplane mode which helps in playing uninterrupted music in the air, even when a SIM card isn’t there.
- Talking phone offers a voice readout of text messages while dialing number or when receiving a call.
- Crystal Talk™ technology.
- Full HTML browser.
- The quad-band world phone supports GPRS and EDGE networks.
Full Phone Specifications -
- Dimensions: 115 x 53 x 10.6mm
- Band: Quad Band; GPRS/EDGE class 12

- Battery: 970mAh

The Rokr E8 is a Phone along with a music player as told by the company but i feel personally that the sound quality and output are not upto the mark as the company and the trade name suggests and it also does not match the sound quality and the output as in other phones in the same range, but the phone provides the users with controls what they need at the time, instantly transforming from phone to a music player with the touch of a button, and doing it elegantly where the numbers disappear and the music buttons appear instantly transforming into a music device from a phone.
But the screen could have been bigger to give it a more elegant look, but the sleekish design and the rokr symbol at the bottom of the phone give the phone a more cutting edge look.
Pros -
- The overall look of the phone with the Rokr sign embedded into the body at the bottom of the phone giving it a modern and trendy look, which I really liked.
- What I like in the phone is the keypad which is not the traditional keypad or the touch screen typo but it is a mix of both put together.
- The 5 options in the music controls which appear on the keypad as soon as we switch to the music mode, makes it really easy to play music with the help of the “Fast scroll navigation wheel”.
- The menu options are really good looking.
- I like the slight vibration it gives when a key is pressed, also seen this in Moto Razr2
Cons -
- First and foremost the camera is horrible in dim light, I seriously recommend you not to go for this phone if you are looking for a phone with a decent camera and if you are a camera lover then don’t even think of this phone.
- Now coming to the music, the output is very less and the quality is average I think Motorola has to look into this and improve on this.
- Don’t know about others but I think that the screen would have been better if it were bigger than what it is now.
Summary and final point – It is a gorgeous looking phone with a beautiful keypad but not for people who are looking for a good camera and good sound output, So if you are looking for pure style then go for this phone without a look back.
Price is around Rs. 12,500 in India, and $320 in the U.S. market.

The option of switching to the music keypad and alphabet keypad with lights seperately for them looks impressive.
Nice review.

Hello,
Do u ever felt like motoroker E8 is having less network coverage ability. I, very recently bought a E8. It is failing to register with network very often. It maximum shows only 3 bars in the field given for network coverage even if i’m very near to an antenna of my network provider . Have u ever felt like that?

@Santhosh,
My friend is using this mobile, and he has never seen any problem with the network connection.
Maybe you are too close to the network towers, which causes inconvenience most of the time.

@Santosh
Yeah i too feel that the phone is poor at catching signals, but never had such a problem with it i.e showing only 3 bars, i get full signal most of the time.
So it might be a problem in your phone or just wait for some days if its a new phone the problem might get rectified by itself!!!!!

Wow this is a pretty cool phone.. $320 is it fair?..
October 7th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
@Escoofield: Yes a fair price, as the features like the backlight switch for different modes like music and call, and the design all make it up to value the phone to the price of $320.

Hello Friends,
I couldn’t make a reply after my last post. I was forced to replace the phone. Motorola support people agreed that it is a manufacturing defect with the phone. Network availability problem comes with some E8 phones due to some defect in manufacturing. Also i feel that their camera quality is poor. Also i feel their software is a bit slow in performance. It is taking a delay in loading, like in the case of our Nokia N series.
Anyway the look and feel is outstanding for E8. Also the bluetooth speed has improved from their previous models. Sound performance and the higher storage facility are really good. Scratch proof body is an added advantage.
Also do any one know a site where i can download the themes for Motorola E8..Right now i have only 2 themes set in the phone. Also do any one know about the message storage capacity of E8?
