Nokia 6700 Classic mobile phone review

Published by Chetan on July 26, 2009 – 10:01 am2 Comments

The Nokia 6700 Classic phone which is lately released into the phone market, with the traditional S40 operating system, but still with features that can make this one a good one to hold in your hands. A very sleek and slim design, with a decent price which tells that Nokia has still not stopped the production of the regular class phones, apart from the popular N-series and other ones to compete with the other big brands.

Design:
Coming to the Nokia 6700 Classic, its a pretty well designed phone, which suits every class people, and has a very compact size. Unlike many other phones, when you have this phone in your hands, the phone gives you a feel of having something heavy although the small size(just like the metal mercury?). The dimensions are 109.8 x 45 x 11.2 mm but still when compared to other competitiors of nearly same size, it was too much heavy, weighing 113 gms. The shiny panel, which looks better in the black color adds up to the sleek design. It is made up of Stainless steel on the exterior, the main reason for the gloss and beauty of the dark colored piece.

The screen size is of 2.2″ and the color display in the phone is also appreciable with 16 million colors. It supports QVGA resolution, and it takes nearly half of the front side of the phone. There are 5 keys just below the screen, which are the main function keys – The center D-key and 2 on either side of it. These are the traditional keys that are usually seen on every Nokia smartphone except the menu key which is absent, this not being a S60 N-series phone.

Interface:
The interface is made with Series 40 6th edition and any earlier Nokia user won’t see anything new in this mobile, so the interface is pretty easy to use. Still everything isn’t the same. Especially being a web savvy person, i first tried using the internet and the web browser has become surely better than before. This webkit-based browser takes web browsing experience to the next step in Nokia phones.

One more good change worth checking out is the Flash lite content capability to be used as an organic wallpaper. There are a few more changes made but not worth mentioning. Minor ones!

Camera:
5-megapixel, with an autofocus and LED flash but still the options to click pictures in all conditions are not pretty well set so don’t expect very much about it. The autofocus can give clear images of resolution upto 2592 x 1944 pixels when there is no movement of the object. The flash is just a flash for clicking pictures, and can’t be used as a light for video capture.
For the other phones in the same category of 5-megapixel camera, the picture quality is quite appreciable. In normal conditions, the details of the pictures taken are pretty fine, but video quality is not upto the standards.

Connectivity:
The first disadvantage is absence of WiFi, which may worry many people, but there are many other connectivity options like 10Mbps HSDPA and 2Mbps HSUPA, through which one can connect to the web at very high speeds and not feel the absence of WiFi.
The connectivity experience is added-up by the webkit based browser, and as its seen in every S40 phone, Opera Mini phone browser comes pre-installed. This browser not only helps you speed up the web browsing, but also reduces the size of the page by rendering it smaller than normal.

Other features:

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support
  • VGA video recording at 15fps
  • Built-in GPS receiver
  • Built-in accelerometer sensor – Best for a few gaming apps
  • Bluetooth (with A2DP) and microUSB port
  • microSD card slot (16 GB supported, 1GB included)
  • Ovi share and ovi maps support
  • Rich preinstalled application package

Final words:
Its a phone good with good design, and features despite basic S40 operating system in it. Camera quality is appreciable and connectivity isn’t bad except the absence of WiFi. So overall its a phone to which i can give a 3/5 rating.
