Palm has finally announced the much awaited Palm Pre, which comes with a very beautiful design, a touchscreen and sliding QWERTY keypad.
And the Pre is coming with a new touch OS, which is named as WebOS by the rumor spreaders all around, not sure about that though. This phone is going to be a good competition for the Windows mobile equipped phones, and Apple iPhone.
The touchscreen diagonally measures 3.1″ and 320 x 480 pixels, and shows support for multi-touch. And the new OS should really be dashing with some features like accelerometer for auto-screen rotation. And below the front screen, there is a center button, and a special zone called Gesture Area. It takes the gestures of fingers to function in its interface. Like sliding finger to the left, would take to the previous window etc.
The Palm Pre comes with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (A2DP + EDR), microUSB and an inbuilt GPS receiver. The charger needs no wired connections, but the charging dock is a touchstone, by which you can place the phone on top of the magnetic stone and get it charged.
The in-built memory is 8 GB and there is no extra slot for memory, but that would be sufficient. And the phone when connected, works like an external storage device. No special software needed to get connected.
Camera is 3 Megapixel but still does not satisfy as it does not come with auto-focus, and video recording is not possible.
The best thing to check out is the new WebOS that might be challenging to the Symbian, Android, Mac and Windows OS of various brands. The Pre is expected to be launched by Mid-2009.
