Reveal the long URLs of shortened URLs – Firefox add-on

Sometimes when you are reading something which has a few links that are shortened by the URL shortening services, and sometimes these links are either the affiliate links or any untrusted sites that you may not wish to go, and are still excited about what the site may be leading to.

This firefox add-on named LongURLPlease reveals what the short/tiny URL actually has behind it. And here is what the site says -

Short URLs are common in many web sites and applications.
Use this web service to reduce uncertainty for your users.

The service includes revealing the long URLs of around 32 URL shortening services, and these include the main and most used ones like tinyurl.com, is.gd, bit.ly, tr.im, snipr.com, ping.fm, url.ie, zi.ma, ff.im, cli.gs etc.

Its a good and handy firefox add-on, also available as a bookmarklet for those who do not use Firefox browser and still want it for their browsers like Internet explorer, Safari etc.

You can get the information about the URL which is shortened, and also it reveals whether you have visited the same URL before or not.

    This is a very good tool for seeing the shortened url. A lot of scammers have been using them to send you to there pages and with this tool you can see where your going first.

    Wow! Thanks for the write up.
    I’ve concentrated efforts early on in getting a firefox plugin that makes day to day browsing more pleasant. My next aim is to get more application developers to integrate the service to enhance their applications for all users (not just those with the plugin/firefox).
