Review of WordPress 2.7 Dashboard – One day use

wordpress logoWordPress 2.7, which my blog was upgraded to yesterday, impressed me from one side and i was not happy when seeing few other things. Firstly, the admin interface usage depends on the internet connection speed which is a big drawback for bloggers who are on a slow internet connection during any vacations, accessing through any wireless connections.

Things that impressed me -

  • First best thing in the new dashboard is the Comments section, where everything is AJAXed and you have the option to edit, delete, reply to the comment from the same place where a relevant box appears after you select any option.
  • Then the Sleeky look of the entire interface impresses me a lot.
  • Quickpress, that allows to post something very quickly that hit up your mind right on that time, mostly comes to use in a personal blog.
  • Everything can be moved, and removed or added. Am talking about the various sections in any dashboard page, where the sections like Recent comments, Drafts, News, Plugins etc. can be moved around or removed if you wish not to have them.
  • Automatic upgrade option for plugins from the dashboard itself, one more plus point.

What i really didn’t like -

  • Single colored look, greyish overall.
  • Sucks when on a slow internet connection. Really bad functionality when you are running a slow internet connection, as the AJAX based features don’t show up well.

Just after a day of use, i got some good points to say but still i have not gone into the Google Gears section etc. so not sure how handy they come.

How has the interface been for you?

Comments

  1. I like the fact that you can now edit comments without having to navigate to the post and click on ‘edit’ link. I also like the fact that automatic upgrades are built into WordPress.

  2. Amit Bhawani says:

I didnt find any real good reasons of using google gears, but you can try it out since you blog real slow broadband speed.

  3. @David Wallace: The comment functionality is definitely improved.
