While i yesterday said that Safari 4 beta download is available and Apple already says and its tested that Safari 4 is the fastest browser in the world, its not false. The speed of page load, and the lightness of the browser are both good. Pages load in a very fast way, and the top sites, cover-flow options are also good.
To make your browsing experience a bit better, you may try these tips and tricks for Mac OS X. I tried Safari 4 in Mac and not windows yet, so these tips are for Mac users -
- Keyboard shortcut for tab shifting – As in firefox for mac, where you use Ctrl + tab for shifting through tabs, the same can now be used in Safari 4 beta to shift through tabs. Earlier it was Command + Shift + Arrow, which is still functional but the easier shortcut has arrived.
- Zoom, the iPhone style – In iPhone as you zoom in the web pages, every part gets bigger including the images. The new zoom-in option lets you zoom through both text and images in the web page. And the keyboard shortcut for that is Command + + or Command + -
- Enabling search suggestions – In the browser, you can enable or disable the search suggestions that you get when searching for particular keywords in the search toolbar. You can enable that by going into the Terminal.app in your mac and entering this -
- Disabling search suggestions – Here is what to do, to disable the search suggestions in Safari 4 beta. Go to terminal application of mac, and enter this text -
- Disable the top sites section – The top sites section in the new tab is an awesome new addition to the browser, which actually has nothing to do with your browser speed or connectivity. But if you for some reason want to have it removed, you can do that by going to the terminal application in mac, and typing in this -
- Bring tabs down to original place – The new safari browser the tabs gone to the top of the browser, and if you want to have them in the place where they were in the previous versions, you can do that with this terminal application command -
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeGoogleSuggest -bool TRUE
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeGoogleSuggest -bool FALSE
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeTopSites -bool FALSE
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4TabBarIsOnTop -bool FALSE
Tip for Mac users about Terminal application – You can open terminal.app by going to Applications folder > Utilities. In that you can enter any command line to get the corresponding action done.

Hi nice post i am currently using safari 4 on my windows i downloaded it 4 days back and i also use firefox but after using safari i have not opened firefox for the past 4 days. So i will say firefox is better and the best but u cant deny the fact that safari opens the web pages faster than firefox..
i like the design of Safari 4 but i think it uses more resources compared to Opera.
