You might have seen that this blog is using gravatars(Globally Recognized Avatars) in the comments area and the avatars you use are globally the same for your email address, until you have set them up for your profile.
So you have a globally recognized avatar for yourself?
You should have one which automatically appears in every blog that supports gravatar and whenever you comment there, the avatar is directly pulled in.
How to set it up?
Register at Gravatar.com and upload your avatar there. Keep your own photo there which is not used anywhere by anyone(Your real face would be the best!)
Main tip to follow -
You have to use the same email address to comment every where, the one you used to register at gravatar.com! That is the only way for gravatar to recognize you and set the gravatar in all blogs where you are commenting.
A small tutorial on how to set your gravatar for your email address profile -
Register and login to the gravatar.com site.
Then in the top you see “My Account” section with a drop-down box with some options like adding an email address, adding an image for the avatar, managing the account and changing the password.
Just click on “Add an Image”
![]()
Then you have 3 options to add an image to your profile -
- Your computer’s hard drive
- An image on the internet
- Your WordPress.com Avatar
And then you are done after the upload of image. Now, use the same email address to comment in any blog that uses gravatar and you will see your avatar automatically appearing there. This blog too.
But don’t get confused with mybloglog avatars, as some blogs use this too.

i’ve just setup my avatar, will try to test around it
@LISa: You don’t seem to have set it up! The avatar you have there is a random generated image.
I thought you had to paste a special code in the comments to get it to work, but it looks like that’s not the case (in Chris Pirillo’s blog he mentioned you had to copy and paste a certain code). Anyways, I still need to set up my Gravatar. Thanks for this article!
@QuickPWN: Chris Pirillo was right actually, but for the themes which do not already have the option.
This blog theme has the gravatar added by default.
Lets see you rolling with a new avatar

After this post almost all off the users have their images now
A good tutorial. This is another way of letting others know we are not spammers. We always have our own identity and a picture! I think that’s possible only with the wordpress blogs. Right?
