Top commentators plugin bug found

I usually browse through many blogs everyday, and love the blogs which have top commentators plugin installed with them that gives me more interest to comment there. One of those was entrecard blog where i am active since quite a few days as Graham is doing a good job with it and writing some good stuff there.

But then, i found some thing that no one might have noticed. I use the name “Chetan” to comment in that blog, and as i have more comments there, i usually am on the top commentators list there. And so i was with 4 comments and suddenly noticed that it changed to 5, and the URL of the commentator name changed from http://www.thewwwblog.com/ to http://www.blogoninja.com/

To check on this, i checked the comments and saw that there was a commentator who has the same name as mine, and when he comments, the URL in top commentator’s list changes to his website, and when i comment, it changes to my website. That’s kinda weird.
Don’t get it?

Here is what am trying to explain -

First the other guy replied and the number came to 7 - (Check the URL of his blog in status bar in bottom left) - Click image to enlarge

And my comment which made the change -

So, hope you got it.
Any way to stop that from happening?
I want this news to spread to the plugin developers, and want to know if there is any fix for this.

Use email/ip to sort the list

It’s not just me then! I blogged about this issue earlier this year, but this is the first time I’ve come across someone who has experienced it as well. I was never sure if it was an actual bug in the plugin or an issue elsewhere with my blog that caused it. Now I have more validation that it is not my blog but the plugin!

@dcr, yes its the fault of the plugin and not of the blog actually.

Hi Chetan, I am Chetan. I didn’t know that you are an active commentor on entrecard blog. The same thing happened to me , I was also an active commentor on John Chow, and was on the top commentors widget, but then everytime I commented your link was coming on the widget. Till the plugin is corrected can we have some other solution.
