Twitter helps Sitepoint raise Bushfire donations

Where Sitepoint team had expected to raise $50,000 for the Bushfire relief donations, within 3 days, it was twitter, the microblogging site which helped them raise $75000 in just a single day. That was a great one from twitterers and the big twitter influential people who could make it happen.

twitter logoYesterday we posted about Sitepoint Bushfire Relief Sale explaining why and how Sitepoint is helping people recover out of everything happened in Australia. And twitter was a great tool used to spread the word among people.
Am not sure how many people really have gained something with those books, but still they might have had the good heart to spend those $30 which are directly going into donations.

The sites related to twitter which shows the most retweeted and tweeted websites, showed that the sale page of Sitepoint was on the top for the whole day, and still is on the top. It was only twitter which was a major thing that could make it happen.
Now its expected that Sitepoint can raise around $150000 by the end of 3 days which was its time limit set. In a post by SmartCompany, here is what they said that worked -

Harbottle posted the offer on Twitter, where he has 22,000 followers. “We also called a bunch of influential bloggers who we knew, and they retwittered our tweets. I said we were running a book sale and donating 100% of the proceeds to charity to help the victims of the bushfire. That was it, and the community really rallied, with people blogging and telling us we are setting a great example and it’s a good cause.”

Sitepoint also had setup a page on Facebook but nothing works like twitter, and this is a good proof to show that. And the words that money raised is being donated, could make a good turnover. You can still check sites like retweetrader or retweet tracker, all over there would be these links on the top. This shows the power of twitter or twitterers, at least during a cause.

Those who have not bought the books and helped the cause, you can do that by going over to Sale.sitepoint.com!

A small positive coming out of that horrible tragedy.

    Twitter’s got some real leverage.
