Upcoming changes in Twitter – Ajax updates, Shifted tabs and more

September 19th, 2008 | View Comments

Twitter just posted about their upcoming changes in the interface, after they were being talked about everywhere for having 99% uptime last month. Here are some of the changes which were mentioned to be done, and there is nothing new being added, but only the present features and interface are changed to make it better and faster.

twitter tabsTabs are moved to right section -
You know the tabs come just above the updates and below the update box, with the 4 tabs right now – Home, Replies, Favorites and Direct Messages! But this section is completely being removed and shifted to right side as there is a possibility of adding up of more tabs in future which can not fit if its in the same top bar section, as that area could comfortably have not more than 4 tabs. One more reason is that being in sidebar, its easier to access those tabs.

Ajax updates -
Now there will be no complaints, that the user who uses twitter homepage to update or check the replies have to refresh the page every time to check the new updates and replies. Click on the home or @replies sections there and the page would not be refreshed but the ajax would just show the new updates.

No reply and favorite icons -
There will be no reply or favorite icon beside every update you see on the page. They will be seen only with a mouse-over the tweet and you can use them if you want to reply to that tweet or favorite it.

Design is tweaked -
There are going to be some lighting lines in between the tweets, and the corners would be rounded to make it look better. Still the possibility is that these changes would appear to users of Firefox, Safari and Chrome but not Internet explorer.

Design customizer revamped -
The design customizer is being played a lot with, and some custom design options are coming in, and there would be a few designs which you can select from. And you can still change the background colors if you need more tweaking in the design.

Archives tab = Removal
It was something about which no one cared about anytime, because the archive shows what are your updates, and you can actually see that when you are on the profile page of yours. Then why this archive section. So Removed!

Coming in a couple of days -
The changes will be visible in a couple of days and we would be enjoying with the new version of twitter. There is no change against which we can go as everything is done for the betterment of the user-interface.

Update: The changes are already visible in my profile. Will update you with a couple screenshots soon.
