Update the Google favicon in Firefox Search Bar
With the new colorful favicon from Google, the web and every page in google shows the new updated favicon with 4 colors in it. But its just not everything that changes automatically. Some things have to be done manually to get the changes.
The search bar in firefox browser, might be showing the older favicon, the single colored lower case letter “g” or the still older “G” if you have not updated your browser or the favicon.
So here is how you can update it -
- Download the updated version of the Google search plugin which can be found here.
- Copy it to your searchplugins folder in your Firefox install folder (typically C:Program FilesMozilla Firefox on Windows), and overwrite the existing google.xml file.
- Save the file and restart Firefox.
You are done with the update. The trick actually does nothing else than changing the URL of the favicon as we do in our websites, with the latest favicon URL, in the XML file. This is not understandable for most of the people, so the above steps are easier ones to follow and update it.
* There is no necessity that you have to surely update it. Depends on your wish, if you want to update or not.
