Using a custom wordpress theme? Then make sure to secure your themes folder

Having a good looking theme for a blog is always a good way to have a nice brand to the blog. Either free or a custom one, a good looking theme and its making is always a challenge to the designer.
And when it comes to a custom built paid theme, the theme designer tries to put on whole effort for making the theme very good looking. The one who is buying the theme also expects that to be unique and outstanding. But there are many challenges that the blog owner faces when he is going to release the theme for free being generous.

The downloader might remove the designer link, or make any changes after removing the link etc.
And when it is a custom built theme, which a blog owner is using for only his blog, he should make sure to keep the theme safe from being copied. He loses the money or the time used for the custom theme, if it gets Ripped off.

Recently, one of the blogs that i read, Clazh.com’s owner Arpit Jacob complained that his theme was stolen and was released for free download in warez forums by someone.
Story -
Website Design of Clazh.com ripped
Here is what he said -

I got a mail from someone named Charles that my Blog Design had been ripped. I wrote it off as hoax, but for a second I was scared that my site might have got hacked or hijacked like David Airey site recently.

The thing that actually happened was that Arpit had given all permission set for his wp-content/themes/ folder and anyone was able to view the folders and files there. And someone with some good knowledge can easily copy all the files from there and get a custom theme for free.
When browsing through the Digitalpoint forums, i saw a thread where a person was selling this theme for $20, so trying to make something out of his 0% work. Fortunately i reported him to the Mods and to Arpit, and he was banned and sale closed. But it really Su**s when some one does things like this.

I am using a free theme here, so not cared about the themes folder, but if you are using a unique custom theme, then make sure that you have set no permission for you themes folder like – http://www.thewwwblog.com/wp-content/themes/
This might save your theme from getting ripped. Hope this suggestion helps!
