WordPress 2.7 Coltrane released – Upgrade now

wordpress logoWordPress 2.7 which was the most awaited release, is finally out and available for usage.
After repeated posts about the updates, i finally found out that the new version 2.7 is available for download.

You can download the WordPress 2.7 Coltrane from here, and is named behind John Coltrane, similar to other versions which are all named behind a singer or celebrity. This release has gone through many fixes and changes, beta and candidate releases and has finally come out.

Next you’ll begin to notice the new features subtly sprinkled through the new interface: the new dashboard that you can arrange with drag and drop to put the things most important to you on top, QuickPress, comment threading, paging, and the ability to reply to comments from your dashboard, the ability to install any plugin directly from WordPress.org with a single click, and sticky posts.

Here is a video about it -

I’ve heard good things about the upgrade, and I’m looking forward to taking it for a drive.

BTW, it cracks me up how the text in my post links to a Rachel Ray diet plan! :)

I installed it, before reading this post. It seems to having some bugs right now. The write page/post section looks chunk with the side menu especially the publish and attributes menus on right of the writing area hides some of the toolbar. But fine when you collapse the side menu, Just a bit inconvenient.

I really don’t like 2.7 as much as 2.6.5. I think WordPress peak was at 2.6.5.

This situation reminds me of Windows XP vs Windows Vista. Some people just don’t like Vista and still to this day use XP.

The only problem is that I don’t think WordPress will provide updates and support WordPress 2.6.5. I hope they do, because I seriously don’t like the WordPress 2.7 interface. I find it very clunky and hard to find things.

  5. Is there a plugin that will email you when a new version of WP is released to remind you to update right away? I use the auto update plugin but was wondering if it’s poss to get an email reminder of the new update.
