WordPress 2.7 release date was Nov 10th earlier, but the improvements that were going to be done, took longer time than expected and actually the final date of release has been set to 4th December 2008, i.e. tomorrow.
One thing that wordpress users would see is that its not going to be easy for you to be set with the new version of wordpress if you are not an expert user, as the interface is very much changed and the screenshots would explain everything that has changed.
In a post in the wordpress blog, everything that a user wanted to ask about WordPress 2.7 is explained pretty well.
Collapsing tables, navigation and the admin dashboard has lot of changes, and tweaking everything had taken this long. And most of the pages in the admin dashboard, like the category management, tab management etc. all are changed to different sections.
A lot of changes have been mentioned and all were done after the suggestions from the wordpress users. The media section comes under settings and this is completely new screen for all.
Be ready to upgrade and use the new version of wordpress, i.e. WordPress 2.7 from December 4th. 2008.
