iLife ’08 Macintosh Applications

The iLife ’08 is a suite of multimedia software applications from Apple Inc., which come with the following applications: iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, GarageBand and iWeb. This package is a great bargain for editing photos, movies, and music at just $79 or free when you purchase a new Mac.

The iPhoto ’08 is a fantastic looking application but make sure you have a newer Mac. I recommend an Intel-based Mac, a Mac PowerPC G5, or a MacPowerPC G4 not just for the iPhoto but for all the applications on the iLife. The iPhoto ’08 can now unbelievably automatically group photos into events based upon the dates they were taken rather than breaking them down into smaller time periods. This feature is a fantastic time saver. With the new iPhoto ’08 you can easily select directly from your camera or memory card which pictures to upload instead of having all of them uploaded to a weird location on your hard drive.

The what you see is what you get(WYSIWYG) template-based website creation tool, the iWeb is an excellent website and blog creation tool. The best thing about it is that you do not need to have any knowledge of web languages like HTML in order to use this product.

Where I think they dropped the ball though is on the iMovie ’08. You are much better off with the older version. The iMovie ’06 has much more controls that add depth to your movies. The good news is that with the purchase of the iLife ’08 you can easily download the iMovie ’06 for free and use it in conjunction with your iMovie ’08.

Finally, the iDVD ’08 lets you burn media faster to than its predecessor. One neat feature is that with the OneStep iD

VD lets you hook up your camera via FireWire to make a quick burn. This feature is excellent for people who don’t want to hassle with many options.
